Table of primary cells
Table of secondary(rechargeable) cells

Primary cells

SHAPE V CELL TYPE mAH WT. (g) DIA. (mm) H (mm) W (mm) D (mm) MAKE* COMMENTS
AAAA 1.5 Alkaline MnO2 550 6.0 8.3 42.5 N/A N/A Varta Lightweight and inexpensive, these cells are available from mail order companies. AAAA cells are also produced by Energizer and Duracell.
AAA 1.5 Alkaline MnO2 1000 11.2 10.5 44.5 N/A N/A Dura-
cell
All major manufacturers produce AAA alkaline cells, they are available from retail outlets.
AA 1.5 Alkaline MnO2 2000 21.5 14.5 50.5 N/A N/A Varta Readily available but a bit heavy for an antweight robot.
AA 1.5 Lithium MnO2 2900 14.5 14.3 50.5 N/A N/A Ener-
gizer
Lighter than an alkaline AA cell but still on the heavy side.
223 6.0 Lithium MnO2 1400 38 N/A 36.0 35.0 19.5 Dura-
cell
A reasonable weight for the capacity but these batteries can be expensive. Readily available from photographic suppliers.
2CR5 6.0 Lithium MnO2 1500 39.5 N/A 45.0 34.0 17.0 Ener-
gizer
PP3 9.0 Alkaline MnO2 550 46.5 N/A 48.5 26.5 17.5 Dura-
cell
Needs 5 volt regulator. Cheap and available everywhere from all manufacturers.
PP3 9.0 Lithium MnO2 1200 34.4 N/A 48.5 26.3 16.9 Ener-
gizer
More expensive than the alkaline MnO2 PP3 but readily available from photographic suppliers. Needs 5 volt regulator
PP3 8.4 Zinc air 1500 33.0 N/A 44.5 26.5 16.6 Ener-
gizer
Available from mail order companies. An extremely expensive battery but an amazing capacity for its weight. Needs 5 volt regulator.

*This denotes the manufacturer whose data we used. In most cases other manufacturers will also produce equivalent cells.

Secondary(rechargeable) cells

SHAPE V CELL TYPE mAH WT. (g) DIA. (mm) H (mm) W (mm) D (mm) MAKE* COMMENTS
1/3 AAA 1.2 NiCd 50 4 10.5 16 N/A N/A Sanyo These cells are avilable from mail order specialists. Robot builders needing high power in limited space or weight buy these cells with solder tags to build their own packs.
1/3 AAA 1.2 NiMh 100 4 10.5 16 N/A N/A Sanyo
1/3AA 1.2 NiCd 110 7 14.5 17 N/A N/A Sanyo

AAA 1.2 NiCd 250 11 10.5 44.5 N/A N/A Sanyo Consumer rechargeable cells, all available from retail outlets with equivalents produced by a variety of manufacturers. AA cells are usually a bit heavy for an antweight but are not unknown.
AAA 1.2 NiMh 650 13 10.5 44.5 N/A N/A Sanyo
AA 1.2 NiCd 600 21 14.2 50.0 N/A N/A Sanyo
AA 1.2 NiMh 1100 27 14.2 50.0 N/A N/A Sanyo
PCB 4.8 NiMh 150 25.6 N/A 24.0 15.3 24.8 Varta These batteries are available from mail order suppliers. Good capacity for the weight, popular.
PCB 6.0 NiMh 150 32.2 N/A 30.0 15.3 30.8 Varta
PP3 7.2 NiCd 120 43 N/A 48.5 16.9 26.5 Ener-
gizer
Type Ch22 NiCd discontinued but shown for comparison. Most manufacturers no longer produce NiCd PP3 batteries. Type Nh22 is a readily available consumer rechargeable battery, equivalents are available from almost all other manufacturers. Needs a 5 volt regulator though.
PP3 7.2 NiMh 150 41 N/A 48.5 16.9 26.5 Ener-
gizer
